Maryellen Gibson: Tees, Alberta, Canada; I'm a 17 year old farm girl from the tiny town of Tees, Alberta. I'm not your average farm girl seeing I'm not a cow girl.. don't own a single head of cattle and don't own a pair of cowboy boots. I'm a shepherd. Ewes by the Hay Bale

We put out round bales so our sheep can get food and some bedding all at the same time. In the background you can see one of our barns that the ewes lamb in or go to escape our Alberta winters

Jacky-Bean the Guard Dog

Jack is one of our five guardian dogs. He is a Pyrenees sheep dog bred to watch over the sheep and chase away coyotes.

A New Puppy

This is Dexter our new Pyrenees/Akbash puppy. We hope that he will grow up to be a good guardian dog on our farm. It is best that the guardian dogs grow up with sheep and know their job from a very young age.

We Have Chicks Too

Chickens are also raised on our farm. These light yellow coloured ones that you always see around Easter are the breed that are usually bred for meat not eggs. Brown or Black chicks are the ones that are bred to produce eggs. At least that's the farmer's rule of thumb.

The Black Sheep of the Farm?

Our breed of sheep can have a strong black influence in our flock.

A Family of Farming Passion

Even on Mother's Day mom works on the farm. It's my whole family's passion.

One Happy Little Family

It is kind of hard to see in this picture but this ewe had triplets. Our sheep often have triplets or twins. We have even had up to seven! The pink dots on their head is how we recognize which lambs go with which ewes. Since these ones are black it is hard to see the numbers that we usually spray paint on their sides.

Bottle Bucket

When lambs lose their mothers or they don't get enough food from their moms we have to help by feeding them milk using buckets like this.

The Allis B

We often use tractors for the hard work on our farm. This is an Allis Chalmers Model B. My dad collects Allis tractors or anything that is orange. Behind the tractor is a grain funnel my dad built to distribute grain out in the fields.

...Wow....

Technology sure is a marvelous thing... sometimes... I'm trying to figure this whole "blog" thing out so bear with me here. Thanks for looking at the page and I'm sure that I will have this thing all smoothed out soon. Thanks guys.
